CSU Residential Accommmodation Facility

Charles Sturt University's residential accommodation facility (CSU RAF) is a 780 bed facility built over 4 campuses; Thurgoona, Wagga Wagga, Bathurst and Orange.   CSU were particularly impressed with Joss' ability to design a cost effective and robust solution for student accomodation, whilst maintaining the project scope through the use of innovative construction techniques.  Building designs are typical for each campus and layout designed to suit the varying topography each campus presented.

The design provides students with a village lifestyle, whilst the construction ensures a durable building achieving minimal maintenance requirements.  The underlying design is based around a structural system consisting of modular precast concrete 'boxes' to varying sizes, formed and poured, providing 4 walls and roof cast as one and stacked to provide two-storey living.  This system has proven to greatly benefit the construction programme and minimise on site structural trades.

The construction technique was recognised at the 2009 NSW MBA Excellence in Construction Awards, winning the category "Innovation Construction Technique / Equipment".
